Emerson Network Power Introduces the Avocent Universal Management Gateway Appliance as part of the Trellis™ Platform
Announced at Gartner Data Center Conference 2011, best-in-class appliance delivers unmatched industry performance in service processor management, monitoring, access & control across IT and facilities systems
Columbus,
Ohio
[December 6, 2011] – Emerson Network Power, a
business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and a global leader in maximizing availability,
capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, today introduced the Avocent
Universal Management Gateway, the first data center appliance that enables true
real-time, integrated monitoring, access and control across IT and facilities
systems in the data center. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance
is an integral part of the Trellis™
platform and serves as the real-time data processing hardware link between the
management software and the IT and facilities systems in the data center. When
combined with data center infrastructure management software this
multi-functional device delivers comprehensive real-time infrastructure
management capabilities for the data center including the first and only
solution in the industry for embedded service processor management across
multiple heterogeneous server environments.
Delivering unprecedented insight and
control to data center professionals, the Trellis™ platform
will enable smarter, faster decisions that maximize data center availability,
efficiency, and capacity.
“As a premier sponsor of the 30th
Annual Gartner Data Center Conference, Emerson is excited to showcase the
Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance along with the Avocent DSView 4
software upgrade at this leading industry event,” said Steve Hassell, president
of the Avocent business of Emerson Network Power. “The Avocent Universal
Management Gateway appliance combines the new, revolutionary Trellis™ platform designed to deliver
real-time data collection and monitoring with our industry leading IT infrastructure management
technologies (KVM over IP, serial console, and service processor management) to enable more effective and comprehensive data
center infrastructure management. In
addition to allowing customers to manage the embedded service processors from
any brand of server in their datacenter without having to buy additional
management software, this device also integrates capabilities delivered
traditionally through multiple, disparate IT and facilities devices into a
single 1U product with four times the functionality in 25 percent of the size
enhancing data center resource and space utilization by as much as 50 percent.
Available February 2012, the
Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance, on display at the Gartner Data
Center Conference (Booth H), is a powerful and scalable 1U device that can collect
real-time data from thousands of devices and sensors across IT and facilities
systems. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance efficiently and
intelligently stores, processes and translates the huge volumes of real-time data
generated by these systems enabling rapid, accurate problem identification, escalation
and resolution. The Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance also provides
remote access to and controls data center systems that are central to the
future of DCIM.
“More and more organizations are seeking to
eliminate the inefficiencies created when IT and facilities systems are managed
separately,” explained David Cappuccio, Vice President and Chief of Research –
Infrastructures, Gartner. “DCIM solutions that integrate IT and
facilities systems into a single management platform will be essential to
optimizing the performance of the data center in the future.”
Avocent DSView 4 Software, also introduced
today, is the first data center infrastructure management software to use the
Avocent Universal Management Gateway appliance to deliver 24/7 centralized data
center management. This hardware and software combination enables data center
administrators to remotely access, monitor and control target devices on
multiple heterogeneous platforms across numerous locations. Avocent DSView 4 also offers new features including HyperV
support, FIPS 140-2 support, and the addition of an open architecture database
to allow administrators to design custom reports, and utilize third-party
reporting systems.
As part of Emerson Network Power’s participation
at Gartner Data Center Conference, Hassell and a Blue Cross Blue Shield
executive will speak on December 6, 2011 at 1:45 pm at Augustus 5, Caesars
Palace, Las Vegas on “Reducing Costs and Improving Performance with Data Center
Infrastructure Management.”
